Comparing fund-level impact performance: Exploring the emergence of impact ratings and benchmarks

Share:

Recently, at the 2024 GIIN Impact Forum, we participated in a thought-provoking panel hosted by Bluemark on the evolving field of fund-level impact. Alongside leaders from the GIIN and other experts, we discussed the future of impact investing and the evolving landscape of impact ratings and benchmarking tools.

A key highlight was the introduction of Bluemark’s new Fund ID tool, which was piloted over the summer. This tool offers a promising way to compare impact strategies across funds, increasing accountability and enabling more effective decision-making. While benchmarks and rating tools are valuable, we emphasized that meaningful impact analysis requires a nuance approach, that must be tailored to each fund’s unique goals and circumstances.

These discussions—focused on relationship-building and the need for thoughtful impact assessments— underscored the growing momentum in the industry to strengthen transparency and accountability in impact investing. We’re excited to keep facilitating and learning from these connections to drive meaningful and measurable change.
