We are seeking a high-performing Impact Associate to join our impact team. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to manage large bodies of data and information, provide suggestions on data visualization and communicate results effectively. Alongside data management, written communication skills are highly desired. Sonen offers a collegial environment with team members who are passionate about impact investing and work together to create positive impact across our communities.

 

About the Impact Team

The Impact Team is responsible for overseeing Sonen’s overall impact strategy, as well as the impact strategies of individual client investment portfolios. This includes articulating specific impact strategies, investment due diligence, and gathering impact data across the firm’s investments in all asset classes. The Impact Team also reports to global frameworks (e.g., B-Corp, UN PRI), and authors public-facing thought leadership pieces. The team is composed of three members and operates as a part of the Research and Client Service teams.

The Impact Associate supports the Head of Impact Strategy and the Head of Impact Engagement in achieving the objectives of the team, while being primarily responsible for data management processes and impact data visualization, described below.

 

Responsibilities

The Impact Analyst will be responsible for impact data collection, management, analysis, and reporting/visualization. This includes:

  • Collecting and organizing qualitative and quantitative data across investment strategies (public equities, fixed income, alternatives, and private markets) and impact themes
  • Cleaning, validating, and transforming data into visualizations including client dashboards, quarterly reports, and a written annual report
  • Maintaining and improving data pipelines and software tools used for data collection and data management
  • Assisting the company in communicating the impact results of all investment portfolios, with an emphasis on continual improvement and excellence.

In addition to data responsibilities, the Analyst will support the greater Impact Team in:

  • Impact due diligence and research on potential investments
  • Thought leadership development (see Sonen’s website for existing frameworks and thought leadership) and issue-based research
  • Development and implementation of client-specific impact frameworks and KPIs
  • Periodic reporting to global frameworks (B-Corp, SFDR, UN PRI)
  • Internal workflow coordination and in-office communication for the balance of the firm’s staff
  • Keeping apprised of industry news and best practices

This role offers an opportunity to build deep expertise in impact measurement and management, gain experience in investing in multi-asset class portfolios, and contribute meaningfully to a mission-driven firm working at the forefront of sustainable investing.

 

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Four-year degree (data science, environmental studies, business, economics, finance preferred)
  • Proficiency in Excel (required); experience with data management and visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI) and no-code tools (AirTable, Zapier) preferred
  • Comfortable learning new software and technology platforms
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication (role does require some writing)
  • Curiosity, flexibility, and a collaborative attitude
  • Ability to work independently

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience in impact investing, impact measurement, data visualization and/or reporting a plus
  • Familiarity with ESG and industry impact frameworks such as IRIS+, UN SDGs, IMP, B-Corp and SFDR is a plus

Compensation

  • Salary Range: $85,000 – $100,000

San Francisco, CA (hybrid)
